HB19 for the lunch side of brunch
The team behind the ever-beloved Holybelly 5 opened a sister restaurant, Holybelly 19. It’s definitely different than the ultra breakfast-focused Holybelly 5, but they still focus on high quality dishes and friendly service. You’re also almost guaranteed to wait at Holybelly 5, whereas you can put your name in at Holybelly 19 if there’s a wait, which is nice.
This used to be the original location of Holybelly, Queen of the Paris Brunch Spots. They needed more space to accommodate the growing crowds for HB5, though, so they relocated down the street to 5 Rue Lucien Sampaix.
In turn, the original spot was remodeled to become Holybelly 19 (aka HB19), and it is a small, lunch-focused restaurant. While they do have a few breakfasty items, you’ll find no pancakes here, nor the typical brunch offerings. They have a selection of small-plate-esque starters and a few mains to choose from.
The day I went, there was a beautiful radicchio salad. The dressing was so standout, I could have eaten three more of that same dish. I mean. What did they do to that dressing??
Other starters included a soft-boiled egg with little toast “soldiers” and some perfectly cooked tri-color beets with goat cheese and toasted buckwheat.
For mains, we got the trout and the pork belly. Both were cooked perfectly.
Even though the wait was still an hour, we put a name on the list, walked around, had a coffee elsewere, and came back. At Holybelly 5, you have to stay in line.
Holybelly19 and its famous sister, Holybelly5, are quite different, as intended. If you’re looking for a savory and lunch-focused brunch, this is a great choice. For more insight into the types of dishes they offer, check out the menu here.
