The Best New Restaurants in Paris

The best restaurants in Paris are all spawning new life. Several new exciting restaurants & wine bars have cropped up in the past few months, and many of these hot spots are the offspring of already existing popular restaurants. Most have arrived within the past month, with the oldest at 7 months and the youngest not yet born.

So who’s been knockin’ boots?

Here are six newly born members of existing, established, and distinguished food & wine families:

1. Bar à Vin A. T

When it opened: Last Thursday (April 23^rd)
Proud parent: Restaurant A. T
What to expect: Natural wines galore (tended to by David Benichou, ex-manager & sommelier of Vivant Table & Vivant Cave), an intimate space (the downstairs cave of Restaurant A. T), chefs, soms & wine aficionados, and a selection of small plates that are not cheap but are extremely high quality
What to eat: Cured Wagyu beef & any other small plate that comes from the hands of Atsushi

2. Hero

When it opened: April 10^th
Proud parent: Mary Celeste, Candelaria, Glass
What to expect: Korean fried chicken and craft cocktails, a fun & trendy space, great music, former Mary Celeste chef Haan Palcu-Chang in the kitchen, and fellow food-lovers at the tables, licking their fingers & washing their hands in a beautiful center sink
What to eat: Korean fried chicken (half sweet, half spicy), pork bun, rice cakes

3. Martin Boire & Manger

When it opened: December 2014
Proud parent: Au Passage
What to expect: A perfect apero or outdoor dinner spot delivering the same fresh, market-driven small plates that we’ve come to love at Au Passage, with Peter Orr (former second at Au Passage) at the helm, and a wide open storefront and terrace begging to take advantage of the recent turn in weather
What to eat: The menu’s always changing, eat it all.

4. Ellsworth

When it opened: March 18^th
Proud parent: Verjus
What to expect: Small plates to share at night, a stellar brunch on Sunday. Alec Lebrano called it the best new restaurant this spring.
What to eat: Buttermilk fried chicken, duck meatballs, rabbit corndogs. At brunch, get a spicy bloody mary, dutch pancake with bacon jam, corned beef gnocci hash, and a ricotta, mushroom & pesto omelet that I still dream about. We ordered the whole menu, and it was glorious.

5. La Cave à Michel

When it opened: September 2014
Proud parent: Le Galopin
What to expect: A long, narrow wine bar focusing on great wines and small plates, most likely filled with other chefs on their days off or just before their service.
What to eat: Whatever’s on the menu. Asparagus with tofu, pork belly, octopus, oeuf mayo. My mantra is “one of each”. Repeat after me, “One of each.”

6. Coming soon…a Daniel Rose Bistro

When it opened: It hasn’t yet. Daniel is still prego. (Update: La Bourse et La Vie is now open)
Proud parent: Spring
What to expect: Fantastic classic fare with bistro prices, created more with the Bourse local lunch crowd in mind than the crazed Times reader who reserves 3 months in advance. Now we’re talkin’.
What to eat: Leeks with vinaigrette, sole with capers, beef cheek, pot au feu. But really, if it’s cold out, the pot au feu.
